2007 World's Ugliest Dog Winner
According to the Sonoma-Marin Fair, the 2007 winner of the world's ugliest dog goes to Elwood! Here is their press release:
2007 WORLD’S UGLIEST DOG NAMED!
BEAUTIFUL BIG WIN FOR UGLY LITTLE ELWOOD, SECOND RUNNER UP IN 2006 CONTEST
(Petaluma, CA – June 22, 2007) A large crowd of fans and press anxiously assembled
around the Kiwanis Park Stage at the Sonoma-Marin Fair well before 6:30 pm Friday night in
anticipation of a favorite annual event, The World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. In the end, that same
crowd went wild when their clear favorite, Elwood, took not one but three prizes—first place in
the Mutt Class, Ugly Dog of 2007, and finally the coveted position of World’s Ugliest Dog in this
19th annual event. To claim the big title, Elwood had to out-ugly two former champions, Archie
(2006 winner) and Rascal (2002 winner).
Last year’s favorite, Archie, made the trip from Arizona with owners Brian and Heather
Peoples, while Rascal, the king of the ring in 2002, traveled up with owner Dane Andrew from
Sunnyvale. Both former titleholders are Chinese Cresteds.
Elwood and devoted owner Karen Quigley flew in all the way from New Jersey to
participate in the contest. This unusual little dog—six pounds of hairless pride sporting a
personalized rhinestone collar—is a Chinese Crested/Chihuahua mix that was rescued as the result of a New Jersey SPCA investigation. Little did he know the fame that awaited him!

Quigley truly enjoys each year’s Ugliest Dog Contest—for the great fun, the time with her dog and the opportunity to keep a sense of humor about the word “ugly”, even though she finds Elwood anything but. Says Quigley, “This tiny dog will capture your heart. Cute or ugly, I think he's just perfect.”

Earlier in the evening, Poppy, a 13-year old Chinese Crested Hairless from Nevada, won
the Pedigree class, much to the delight of beaming owner Tamara Pinegar. Poppy was rescued just this past year from a puppy mill. Pinegar says that Poppy has forgotten about all of the bad people he met over the years and is now living his days out in style at his new house in Vegas with his three “brothers”: Cosmo the Chihuahua, Newman the Chinese Crested Powderpuff and Romeo, a Chihuahua-Corgi rescue.
As in years past, KZST’s Brent Farris was a fantastic emcee, and Sonoma-Marin Fair
Board of Directors President Brian Sobel was on hand to pre-qualify the contestants for adequate ugliness. This year’s judges were Chris Smith of the Press Democrat, Karen Nau, Petaluma City Council Member, and Mr. X, a luchadore (Latino free wrestler) who later wowed another crowd with his skills in the wrestling ring. Everyone is looking forward to the 20th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest next June; don’t miss it!
