Search Engine Optimization and Positioning - at Spider Food
Want to know how to market for the search engines? I've found a great starter site that explains the search engine marketing terms and concepts. They've also got a great forum...here's a snipit of one of the articles:
Stealth Technology For The Search Engines
Cloaking is a method of web page delivery whereby different pages are served from the same address, depending on whether or not the visitor is a human or a spider. In other words, browsers such as Netscape and MSIE are served one page, and spiders visiting the same address are served a different page.
The reason for using cloak technology is twofold. First, because viewers never see the page that is presented to the spider, the code can not be stolen. In highly competitive markets the ability to conceal code from the prying eyes of competition can be an extremely powerful advantage.
Second, since the page that is served to the spider is never seen by a human visitor, the spider page need not be 'pretty.' As a result it can be optimized to it's fullest potential.
Think about that for a second. Nobody sees the page except for the spider. That gives cloaked pages an extremely powerful advantage over web pages that were optimized to accommodate a professionally appealing design.
That said, there are two methods of delivering cloaked pages - Agent Name Delivery and IP Address Delivery.
